Jan Švejnar Receives the Silver Medal of the President of the Senate

Professor Jan Švejnar, co-founder of CERGE-EI, received the Silver Medal of the President of the Senate from Miloš Vystrčil on September 28, 2026, during a ceremony at Wallenstein Palace in Prague.

The Silver Medal is the highest award presented by the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. This year, 17 personalities from science, culture, sport, and public life were honored on the occasion of Czech Statehood Day. Jan Švejnar received the award “for the tireless search for paths to prosperity.”

“I would like to thank Senate President Miloš Vystrčil for awarding me the Silver Medal for the search for paths to prosperity. It is a great honor to stand alongside personalities whose work and values have a real impact,” Jan Švejnar said.

“I am especially pleased that this recognition comes in the year when CERGE-EI is celebrating its 35th anniversary. In May, the same medal was also awarded to Philippe Aghion, an outstanding economist, Nobel laureate in economics, and a member of the CERGE-EI Executive and Supervisory Committee.”

In presenting this year’s medals, Senate President Miloš Vystrčil highlighted the laureates’ contributions to society and their willingness to help, support, explain, connect, protect, and inspire others.
