Title: "A Household Perspective on Job Loss and Intergenerational Mobility"

Abstract: This paper studies how parental job displacement during the Great Recession affects both household behavior and the intergenerational transmission of economic status. Using Dutch administrative data, we first quantify the long-run wage and household income losses of displaced parents relative to comparable non-displaced parents. We then examine how household constraints, such as family structure, shape the job search behavior of unemployed parents following displacement. Finally, we analyze the adult labor market outcomes of their children and assess whether experiencing parental job loss in childhood affects both absolute and relative intergenerational income mobility.
