Autoři nejlepších výzkumných projektů získali stipendia Nadace RSJ pro rok 2021

Stipendium Nadace RSJ určené pro studenty 2. ročníku doktorského programu CERGE-EI letos získali Martin Kosík, Jan Žemlička a Arseniy Scherbov. Vítězové vzešli ze soutěže o nejlepší výzkumné projekty vypracované v předmětu Research Methodology Seminar. 

Smyslem stipendia je poskytnout studentům finanční podporu, díky které mohou na navrženém výzkumu začít pracovat a plně se soustředit na jeho úspěšné dokončení. 

Vítězné projekty vybírali vyučující předmětu Research Methodology Seminar Marek Kapička a Paolo Zacchia. Své návrhy odevzdalo 11 studentů. 

Na slavnostním vyhlášení výsledků studentům pogratulovali Prof. Marek Kapička, zástupkyně ředitele pro studium Alena Bičáková a ředitel CERGE-EI Sergey Slobodyan.

První cenu a finanční odměnu 55 000 Kč získal Martin Kosík, druhou cenu a stipendium 45 000 Kč obdržel Jan Žemlička a třetí cenu a stipendium 38 000 Kč obdržel Arseniy Scherbov.

Anglické anotace vítězných projektů:

Martin Kosík addresses a longstanding debate: the consequences of "indirect rule," i.e. the mediation by local elites on behalf of colonial powers, on later economic development. To this end, he plans to exploit a natural experiment that occurred in Central India, where historical institutions were shaped by geography. His preliminary results are suggestive of a null effect, a potentially relevant contribution to the literature.

Jan Žemlička proposes a novel method for computing equilibria in heterogeneous agent economies with aggregate risk. The method will allow him to quantitatively study optimal policies in highly complex environments, taking into account both distributional and aggregate effect of the tax policies. As an example, he plans to study the optimal tax policy response to a COVID-19 crisis.

Arseniy Scherbov proposes to study the effect that the arrival of refugees from Ukraine, following the 2014-2015 Donbas war, has had on the local crime in Russia. His preliminary results suggest that more interesting and nuanced conclusions may be drawn as the result of additional efforts in data collection and analysis.
